Dealing with ADHD can be challenging for both the teacher and the student. This recomendation comes from a speacial educational teacher that I know. She also has ADHD. I thought I would pass this one on to help other teachers.
Give them Playdough or silly putty to play with while you are giving instructions, reading out loud, etc. Or, let him draw or color. This may sound like letting them off the hook, but I have found that many ADHD people focus better and absorb more of what they hear when they have something to do.
mi son is an adhd child, and so am I, when, at work I`m in a metting I start to draw or play with anything that`s near to my hands, so I absorve better the meting info.
I've had ADD all my life. I can't remember four years of my childhood, from 2nd grade until 6th grade because I was put on Ritalin. I've always had trouble focusing, and when I made it too high school I began playing with Silly Putty. Now I'm in my senior year of college, a GPA to be proud of and I ALWAYS have at least one thing of Silly Putty with me, it's on my back to school shopping list every semester.
